What I collect, why, and how to get in touch about it.
Last updated 11 October 2026
This policy explains what personal data jpharrisonbooks.com collects, why, and what your rights are. It applies to this website, the Shop checkout, and the mailing list — all of which are run by me, J. P. Harrison, as an individual based in the UK. I'm the "data controller" for the purposes of UK GDPR.
For anything to do with this policy or your data, email jpharrison.author@gmail.com.
When you buy a paperback through the Shop page, checkout is handled entirely by Stripe. I never see or store your card details. Stripe passes me your name, email address, and shipping address so I can fulfil and post your order via Royal Mail, and so Stripe can email you an order receipt. This data is used only to process and ship your order, and to deal with any order-related queries — I don't add shop customers to my mailing list unless you separately sign up for it.
If you subscribe to my newsletter, your email address is stored by Mailchimp, who I use to manage the list and send emails. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any newsletter email.
Messages sent through the Contact page are delivered via Formspree, using whatever name, email address, and message you choose to submit. I use this only to reply to you.
I rely on: contract (processing your order so I can fulfil and ship it), consent (newsletter sign-ups, which you can withdraw at any time), and legitimate interest (responding to messages you send me directly).
I don't sell or rent your data. It's shared only with the third-party services that make this site and shop work:
Each of these is its own data controller/processor for the data it handles, and has its own privacy policy.
This site itself doesn't use analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies. Stripe's checkout page (hosted on Stripe's own domain) may set its own cookies to process your payment securely — that's covered by Stripe's privacy policy, not this one.
Order and payment records are kept as long as required for UK tax and accounting purposes. Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. Contact form messages are kept only as long as needed to resolve your query.
Under UK GDPR, you can ask to access, correct, or delete the personal data I hold about you, object to or restrict how it's used, or request a copy in a portable format. To do any of this, email jpharrison.author@gmail.com. You can also complain to the UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk if you're unhappy with how your data has been handled.
If this policy changes, I'll update this page and revise the "last updated" date above.
